 History
Between the year 1200 and the 800 B.C. it gave shelter to the first Phoenician colonies which made a of Caglairi a commercial call. It was dominated by Carthaginians, Romans and Byzantines. During the seven centuries of Roman domination it became the capital of the island together with Turris Libyssonis (Porto Torres). Around the year 1000 it became the independent Giudicato of Cagliari. In the first years of the 1200 it began the colonisation by Pisa which erected a castle and powerful fortifications and it hardly fought against Genoa for the control of Cagliari. In 1297 Bonifacio VII gave Sardinia To Giacomo II of Aragona, it was a dark period, with frequent rebellions and repressions that lasted a century and a half. To the Aragonese it followed the Spanish rule for 240 years. In 1720 Cagliari and Sardinia passed to the Savoia.
